1881 Nature 2 June 120/1 The observer looks steadily at the central point of a disk having apertures, beyond which coloured surfaces are placed. By degrees the sensation of colour is extinguished. On suddenly putting white surfaces in place of the coloured, the complementary colours come out with great brightness, and purity. The instrument is named a chromatroposcope.
