Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese chankonabe.
Etymology: < Japanese chankonabe < chanko- (of uncertain sense and origin) + nabe pan, saucepan (probably originally a compound with the sense ‘food pot’).
A high-protein fish, meat, and vegetable stew eaten by sumo wrestlers. Also in shortened form chanko.
