Etymology: < (i) French alabastrin (first half of the 14th cent. in Middle French), or its etymon (ii) post-classical Latin alabastrinus made of alabaster (14th cent. in a British source) < Hellenistic Greek ἀλαβάστρινος made of alabaster < ἀλαβάστρος alabaster n. + -ινος -ine suffix2. Compare Italian alabastrino (1516). Compare earlier alabaster adj.
Of or resembling alabaster. Frequently figurative (cf. alabaster adj. 2).
