Etymology: < Latin chorāgus, < Greek χορηγός (Attic and Doric χορᾱγός ), < χορός chorus n. + ἄγειν to lead.
1. Ancient Greek History. The leader of a chorus; spec. at Athens, one who defrayed the cost of bringing out a chorus. (Cf. chorus n. 1.)
