单词 celtium
释义

celtiumn.

Brit. /ˈsɛltɪəm/, /ˈsɛlʃɪəm/, U.S. /ˈsɛltiəm/, /ˈsɛlʃ(i)əm/
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French celtium.
Etymology: < French celtium (G. Urbain 1911, in Comptes rendus hebd. de l'Acad. des Sci. 152 142, which is summarized in quot. 1911) < classical Latin Celtae (see Celt n.1) + French -ium -ium suffix, after scandium scandium n. and lutécium lutetium n. (the elements Urbain regarded as most similar), perhaps with allusion to classical Latin (Gallia) Celtica , the name of the part of Gaul in which Lutetia (now Paris) was situated. Compare earlier gallium n. and germanium n. (and the discussion at that entry).
Chemistry. Now historical.
The element of atomic number 72 (later named hafnium), claimed to have been discovered in minerals containing lutetium and other rare earth elements.Urbain’s claim to have discovered element 72 is regarded as mistaken, as the properties he attributed to it did not correspond to those of hafnium later found in zirconium ores.
