Etymology: < classical Latin ag-, variant (before g ) of ad- ad- prefix + grade v.2 (compare grade v.2 7a), after degrade v.
Physical Geography.
transitive and intransitive. Of a river, current, or other agency: to build up (a valley, plain, etc.) by deposition of detrital material. Contrasted with degrade v. 6.
