(bər-nēnə, bĕr-) A mountain group in the Rhaetian Alps on the border between Switzerland and Italy. The highest elevation is Piz Bernina, rising to 4,049 m (13,284 ft). Bernina Pass connects Switzerland and Italy by road and rail.
