Either of two polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with the formula C₂₀H₁₂, found in coal tar and cigarette smoke and isolatable as a white or yellow crystalline solid. Both are hazardous, and one is known to be a potent carcinogen. Also called benzpyrene.
