An oral prostaglandin analog, C₂₂H₃₈O₅, that stimulates the production of gastric mucus and is used to prevent and treat gastric ulcers, especially in patients using NSAIDs. It is also used to induce labor and in conjunction with the drug mifepristone to induce abortion in early pregnancy.
