† ˈdagswain Obs. Forms: 5 dagswaynne, daggysweyne, 6 daggeswayne, -swanne, dagswayne, -swain. [Etymology obscure: the first part has been associated with dag n.1 (cf. description in quot. 1519): cf. also dagon1.] A coarse coverlet of rough shaggy material.
