[f. the name of Harvey Williams Cushing (1869–1939), American surgeon, who described the condition in 1932.]
A syndrome of hypertension, obesity, metabolic disorders, etc., caused by hypersecretion of hormones by the adrenal cortex. Cushing's disease, Cushing's syndrome accompanied and caused by an adenoma of the basophil cells of the pituitary gland.
