Used attrib. to designate a form of cut-work in which the spaces are connected by picoted bars, used in clothing and household accessories.

Short Embroidery & Fabric Collage ii. 39 Another type of white work used for accessories and children's clothes was Richelieu work, an elaborate form of cut work. 1975P. Clabburn Needleworker's Dict. 227/1 Richelieu embroidery, type of whitework where, as in Renaissance embroidery, the design is outlined in buttonhole stitch, the fabric cut away, and the spaces joined with bars or brides. The difference between the two types is that here the joining bars are decorated with picots. |
