cuprammonium|kjuːprəˈməʊnɪəm| Also erron. cupra-ammonium. [f. L. cupr-um copper + ammonium.] A complex ion of copper and ammonia, Cu(NH3)4++, obtained in solution by adding excess ammonium hydroxide to a solution of a cupric salt; it forms deep blue aqueous solutions which dissolve cellulose and are used industrially, esp. in the manufacture of some man-made fibres. So cuprammonium process, cuprammonium rayon, cuprammonium silk, etc. Also used ellipt. for cuprammonium solution.
