spacistor Electronics.|speɪˈsɪstə(r)| [f. space n.1 + transistor.] A kind of semiconductor device (see quot. 1957).
1957Statz & Pucel in Proc. IRE XLV. 317/1 New devices are considered in which electrons or holes are injected directly into space-charge regions of reverse-biased junctions avoiding the diffusion of carriers through field-free regions. The case considered is one in which the junction is biased at a voltage such that the injected carriers are multiplied by the avalanche process. A device of this type shall be called a spacistor. 1962Simpson & Richards Physical Princ. Junction Transistors viii. 175 The spacistor can have input and output impedances of the order of tens of megohms and the coupling between input and output terminals is almost purely capacitative. 1969A. Marcus Electronics for Technicians viii. 160 There is not, as yet, general agreement upon a symbol for the spacistor transistor. |
