Sonne Bacteriol.|ˈsɒnə| The name of Carl Olaf Sonne (1882–1948), Danish bacteriologist, used attrib. and formerly in the possessive with reference to the Gram-negative bacterium Shigella sonnei, which causes a mild form of dysentery in man. [Described by Sonne in 1915 (Zentralbl. f. Bakteriol. LXXV. 408, Zeitschr. f. klin. Med. LXXXI. 73).]
