corallin Chem.|ˈkɒrəlɪn| [ad. L. corallin-us coral-coloured, coral-red: see -in.] A red colouring matter, called also Pæonin, obtained in 1861 by treating phenol with sulphuric and oxalic acids. yellow corallin (= aurin), a yellowish-red dye, obtained by heating carbolic acid with the same substances; so called because by heating with ammonia it is converted into the red corallin.
