▪ I. sialic, a.1 see sial. ▪ II. sialic, a.2 Biochem.|ˈsaɪəlɪk| [f. Gr. σίαλ-ον saliva + -ic.] sialic acid: any acyl or related derivative of a neuraminic acid. Orig. applied spec. to a substance of this type (then of unknown structure) isolated from the salivary glands of cattle.
