mansonia|mænˈsəʊnɪə| [mod.L. (J. R. Drummond 1905, in Jrnl. Linn. Soc. Bot. XXXVII. 260), f. the name of F. B. Manson (fl. 1905), a forester in Burma who collected the first specimens of M. gagei.] A large tree of the genus so called, belonging to the family Sterculiaceæ, esp. the West African Mansonia altissima or the hardwood obtained from it.
