Scientific Latin Chrysomela is apparently > comb. form + µηλολόνθη cockchafer (see Melolontha n.) + -ιον, diminutive suffix).] A. n. Any of numerous small herbivorous beetles constituting the family Chrysomelidae, typically roundish or oval and brightly coloured or with a metallic lustre, and including several serious crop pests; a leaf beetle.
