shoot-'em-up slang (orig. U.S.).|ˈʃuːtəmʌp| Also shoot-em-up, shootemup. [f. vbl. phr. to shoot them up: see shoot v. 30 e.] A fast-moving story or film, esp. a Western, of which gun-play is a dominant feature. Also attrib. (or as adj.) and Comb.
