‖ chouan, n.2 Obs. [F. chouan, in same sense.] The seed of Anabasis tamariscifolia used to mix with carmine.

Supp., Chouan..called by some also carmine seed..a very light and chaffy seed..of an acid taste, and a yellowish green colour, but is larger than worm-seed..It is called green worm seed, in our catalogues. 1764T.
