chondrostean, a. and n.|kɒnˈdrɒstiːən| [f. mod.L. chondrostea (f. Gr. χόνδρ-ος cartilage + ὀστέον bone) + -an.] Belonging to the Chondrostea, a sub-order of ganoid fishes (mostly extinct), in which the vertebral column consists of a simple soft chorda not divided into separate vertebræ. Also called Loricata. b. n. A member of this sub-order.
