chlamydomonas Bot.|klæmɪdəˈməʊnəs| [mod.L. (C. G. Ehrenberg 1833, in Phys. Abh. K. Akad. Wiss. Berlin 281), f. Gr. χλαµυδ-, χλαµύς cloak + µόνος one.] A unicellular, flagellate, green alga, belonging to the class Chlorophyceæ and widely distributed in fresh water.
