a. (A member of) a South American Indian people inhabiting the upper Ucayali River region in the Andes Mountains of Peru.
1805J. Skinner Present State Peru 446 In the year 1651, Friar Alonzo Caballero proceeded from the Payansos to the Callisecas and Setebos, inhabiting the banks of the Ucayali... These establishments were shortly afterwards attacked by the Sipibos, whose cruelty led them to put all the ecclesiastics to death. 1875P. Marcoy Trav. S. Amer.
