Sharps U.S.|ʃɑːps| Also with small initial. The name of Christian Sharps (1811–74), American gunsmith, applied absol. to any of a number of firearms invented and manufactured by him; esp. a celebrated variety of breech-loading, single-shot rifle. Also in the possessive and attrib.
