ceratosaurus|ˌsɛrətəʊˈsɔːrəs| [mod.L., f. Gr. κέρας, κερατ- horn + -o + σαῦρος lizard.] In full Ceratosaurus nasicornus, an extinct dinosaurian reptile such as those reconstructed from remains found in the Upper Jurassic rocks of Colorado.
1884O. C. Marsh in Amer. Jrnl. Sci. XXVII. 330 This interesting fossil is quite distinct from any hitherto described, and as it represents a new genus and species, may be called Ceratosaurus nasicornis. It also belongs to a new family, which may be named the Ceratosauridæ. Ibid. 333 The brain in Ceratosaurus was of medium size, but comparatively much larger than in the herbivorous Dinosaurs. 1892H.
