† ˈcenchrine, cenchris Obs. [ad. Gr. κεγχρίνης, κεγχρίς, L. cenchris, f. κέγχρος millet.] A kind of snake mentioned by the ancients: ‘a serpent with millet-like protuberances on the skin’ (Liddell & Scott). (Hence, in mod. Zool., Cenchrina, a genus of the Rattlesnake family.)
