pyrosome Zool.|ˈpaɪərəʊsəʊm| [ad. mod.L. Pyrosōma (also in Eng. use), f. Gr. πῦρ fire (pyro-) + σῶµα body.] An animal of the genus Pyrosōma, consisting of highly phosphorescent compound ascidians, the individuals being united into a free-swimming colony in the form of a hollow cylinder closed at one end.
