sengi, n.|ˈsɛŋgiː| Also senghi. Pl. unchanged. [a. Kikongo sengi, senki, f. F. cinq five (i.e. sous).] In Zaire, a monetary unit introduced in 1967, equal to 100 makuta (see likuta n.).

The name is a native one, that of the Senga (Nsenga) people who originated from what is now Zaire, but who today have settled in the Zambezi River area of eastern Zambia.
