Carlism|ˈkɑːlɪz(ə)m| [a. F. carlisme, Sp. carlismo, f. Carlos Charles + -ism.] Attachment to Don Carlos, second son of Charles IV of Spain, and his heirs, as the legitimate successors of Ferdinand VII (died 1833), to the exclusion of the daughter of the latter, and her heirs; Spanish legitimism. So Carlist n., an adherent of Don Carlos; adj., pertaining to Carlism.
