semp, n.|sɛmp| [Origin uncertain; perh. repr. shortened pronunc. of an alternative name Louis d'or simple.] A name in Trinidad for a variety of tanager, Euphonia (formerly Tanagra) violacea, which is sometimes kept as a songbird.
