calzone, n. Brit. |kaltˈsəʊni|, |kalˈzəʊni| U.S. |kælˈzoʊn(eɪ)| Plural unchanged, calzones, calzoni [‹ Italian calzone (1634), spec. use of the singular of calzoni trousers (see calzoons n.), apparently with allusion to the folded shape of the dish.] A dish made by folding pizza dough in half around a filling before cooking.
