callistemon, n.|kælɪˈstiːmən| Also C-. [mod.L. (R. Brown: see below), f. Gr. κάλλος, καλλι- beauty + στήµων warp, thread (cf. stamen n.).] An evergreen shrub or small tree of the genus Callistemon, of the myrtle family, native to Australia and bearing spikes of red or yellow flowers resembling a bottle-brush.
