brisling|ˈbrɪslɪŋ, ˈbrɪz-| Also bristling. [Norw., Da. brisling sprat.] A small, sardine-like fish of the herring family, which is widely distributed in the north-east Atlantic and the North Sea, and is cured and tinned for use as food.
