ˈsalt-and-ˈpepper, a.
Applied to things and materials (esp. hair) which are of two or more colours, one being light. Cf. pepper-and-salt. Also (orig. and chiefly U.S.) applied transf. to places, schemes, etc., in which black and white persons are mixed.
