‖ presidio|preˈsidio, prɪˈsɪdɪəʊ| [Sp., a garrison, a fort:—L. præsidium: see presidy, -die.] In Spain and in parts of America originally settled by Spaniards, e.g. the south-western United States: A fort, a fortified settlement, a military station, a garrison town. Also, a Spanish penal settlement in a foreign country.
