Banting|ˈbæntɪŋ| Name of a London cabinet-maker, whose method of reducing corpulence by avoiding fat, starch, and sugar in food, was published and much discussed in the year 1864. Hence Bantingism, Bantingize v., and, Banting being humorously treated as a vbl. n., the vb. to bant.
