bandoneon Mus.|bænˈdɒnɪən, bænˈdəʊniːən| Also bandoleon, bandonion. [a. Ger., f. the name of Heinrich Band (see below) + -on- + -eón (as in G. Akkordeon); cf. F. bandonéon (Trésor, 1928), bandoléon, S. Amer. Sp. bandoneón.] A kind of button accordion invented by Band c 1840, and typical of Argentine tango orchestras.
