† ˈatterrate, v. Obs. [f. It. atterrare ‘to fill or dam vp with earth’ (Florio 1598), f. a. to + terra earth. Cf. OF. aterrer, aterrir in same sense.] To fill up with earth, esp. with alluvial earth.
