The name of the capital of Poland, used attrib. in Warsaw Pact, to designate a military alliance of the Soviet Union with certain other European nations (see quot. 1978), formed by the Treaty of Warsaw, signed on 14 May 1955. (Principally established as a Communist counterpart to N.A.T.O.)
