protosalt Chem.|ˈprəʊtəʊsɔːlt| [f. proto- 3 + salt1.] A salt formed by combination of an acid with the protoxide of a metal, e.g. a salt of ferrous oxide, FeO, as ferrous sulphate, FeSO4.
