1887F. Treves in Medico-Chirurg. Trans. LII. 153, I would venture to suggest the title ‘Richter's hernia’..to make still more clear the lines that should separate this hernia from that known as Littre's, and partly because with Richter must rest the main credit of establishing the individuality of this lesion.1929Amer. Jrnl. Surg. VII. 864/1 A strangulation of part only of the circumference of the intestinal wall is a Richter's hernia.Ibid. 864/2 One should be suspicious of a Richter's hernia when the present illness was ushered in by the incarceration of a long-standing hernia, and where the illness persists.1974R. M. Kirk et al. Surgery vii. 139 Part of the bowel wall may be strangulated, leaving the lumen unobstructed, in Richter's hernia.
