rhodamine Chem.|ˈrəʊdəmiːn| Also Rhodamine. [ad. G. rhodamin (see E. Weingärtner 1887, in Chem.-Zeitung 25 Dec. 1620): see rhodo- and amine.] Any of a class of synthetic xanthene dyestuffs, chiefly reds, which are obtained by condensation of phthalic anhydride with m-aminophenols.
