Revere, n. Chiefly U.S.|rəˈvɪə(r)| Also Paul Revere. The name of Paul Revere (1735–1818), American silversmith renowned for his midnight ride in April 1775 to warn the American colonial forces of the approach of the British, used attrib. and absol. to designate silverware made by Revere, or in a similar Colonial style by his contemporaries or as modern reproductions. (Proprietary as a name for jewellery and copper-bottomed cooking pots.) Revere is used in preference to Paul Revere to designate silver actually made by Revere.
