jud, judd local.|dʒʌd| [Origin unknown: cf. jad.] 1. Coal-mining. (north.) ‘A block of coal about four yards square kirved and nicked ready for breaking down’ (Gresley Gloss. Coal Mining); also, a portion of a ‘pillar’ still unremoved.
