arsen-|ˈɑːsən| short for arsenic, used 1. in Comb.: esp. in names of combinations of arsenic with organic radicals, as in Arsen-dimethyl (= cacodyl, As2 (CH3)4). 2. in derivatives, in which it varies with arseni- |ɑːˈsiːnɪ|; as ˈarsenate or arˈseniate [see -ate4], a salt of arsenic acid, e.g. sodium arsenate, arseniate of nickel or nickel bloom. ˈarsenetted ppl. a., combined chemically with arsenic, arseniuretted. arˈseniate a. rare, mixed or treated with arsenic. arˈseniated ppl. a. = arseniate, and (obs.) arsenetted. ˈarsenide [see -ide], a primary combination of arsenic with another element, (as hydrogen, a metal,) or an organic radical. ˈarsenite, Chem. [see -ite], a salt of arsenious acid, as arsenite of silver, of lead, etc.; Min. synonym of arsenolite.
