arginine Chem.|ˈɑːdʒɪnaɪn, -iːn, -ɪn| Also -in. [G. arginin (E. Schulze and E. Steiger 1886, in Chem. Berichte XIX. 1177), of uncertain derivation.] An amino-acid, C5H13N4COOH, present in many animal proteins and certain vegetable tissues.
