argil|ˈɑːdʒɪl| [a. F. argille (mod. argile), ad. L. argilla (formerly in Eng. use), a. Gr. ἄργιλλος, f. ἀργής white, shining.] Clay, esp. potter's clay. Also proposed as a name for alumina when the nature of that base was first discovered.
