‖ porta Anat.|ˈpɔətə| [L., a gate; also applied to a part of the liver (Cic.). See port n.3] a. The transverse fissure of the liver, at which the portal vein, hepatic artery, etc. enter it: the portal fissure. Also applied to a similar part in other organs. b. The vena portæ or portal vein: see portal a. 2.
