pontil Glass making.|ˈpɒntɪl| [a. F. pontil, app. ad. It. pontello, puntello, dim. of punto point, etc.] 1. An iron rod used for handling, and especially for rapidly twirling the soft glass in the process of formation, esp. in the manufacture of crown-glass. Also called punty.
